Turner drops proposal for tax hike after state provides $50M for Harvey recovery

Gov. Greg Abbott and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced at a Sept. 29 press conference that the state will tap into its “rainy day fund” to help pay for Hurricane Harvey recovery.

The state provided $50 million to Houston for its short-term recovery costs, which prompted Turner to drop his request for a temporary property tax hike.
