Bridge Replacement, Main Street over White Oak Bayou, Houston, Texas 1204211703

The bridge that carries Main Street over Buffalo Bayou and White Oak Bayou was built in 1914 and underwent reconstruction in 1985.

Currently, it carries Metro Light Rail to the front door of the Downtown Campus of the University of Houston.

The 420 foot span over White Oak Bayou beginning at the current northern terminus of light rail is being replaced to accommodate extension of light rail north. The demolition and construction are being handled in such a way that pedestrian access for students to UHD is accommodated.

Aggregate Technologies, Inc., a Houston company, has been performing the demolition.

When completed, light rail will extend north over a 2500 ft elevated portion, while regular traffic will pass through the Judge Alfred Hernandez Tunnel.
