Four local hospitals settle $8.6 million case over ambulance company kickbacks

Four Houston hospitals have settled a major fraud case with Justice Department lawyers, agreeing to pay $8.6 million to resolve allegations they took kickbacks from multiple ambulance companies so they could tap into the hospitals’lucrative Medicare and Medicaid transport referrals of patients, according to a press release. 

The hospitals involved in the scheme, Bayshore Medical Center, Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, West Houston Medical Center and East Houston Regional Medical Center are affiliated with the Hospital Corporation of America in Nashville.
