Huntsman, Clariant abandon megamerger plans in light of shareholder opposition

The Wooodlands-based Huntsman Corp. (NYSE: HUN) and Switzerland-based Clariant AG announced Oct. 27 that they’ve terminated their proposed merger.

Both companies’ boards of directors unanimously approved the decision, and neither company owes the other breakup fees because it was a mutual decision. 

The companies, which announced the merger in May, cited growing investor opposition as the cause for the termination.
