As retail commerce shifted from the center of Houston to its suburbs, the Houston Chronicle and Post were there to capture this transition. Here's a look at how two brick-and-mortar chains made the move out of downtown.

  8. Great stores well missed. With the exception of Neiman Marcus, if department stores focused more on the customer experience and service they wouldn’t be going bankrupt.

  13. Loved it – my grandmother always took me their shopping. I remember the bags with the tree on it. Such memories at Joskes. And the roasted nuts and popcorn in Sears?!

  14. Would take a Joske’s over Dillard’s and Foley’s over Macy’s any day. Foleys gave my 1st credit coupon account. They had the best chocolate chip cookies in their bake shop…bring them back. I need a real red apple sale!
