A tiger kept in an enclosure within a vacant home in southeast Houston had to be tranquilize before a wrecker pulled the animal away.
ABC13 Eyewitness News was the first to learn Monday of the illegally housed animal on Avenue J just east of the East 610 Loop.
Jason Alderete, of Houston police, told ABC13 that the department responded to a call to 311 from a concerned citizen who was at the home to smoke marijuana.
“(We) asked to whether they were under the effects of the drugs or they actually saw a tiger,” said Alderete. “They saw a tiger in this building.”
He added that the animal appeared to have been fed over time since there were empty meat packages discarded at the home.
A wrecker was called to pull the tiger still in the cage. The animal was sedated with a tranquilized dart and loaded on a heavy-duty vehicle.
